Day 1, Yosemite Trip

Day 1, Yosemite Trip

Day 1, October 3 '08. Since early last spring we have had a week-long trip planned to Tahoe/Yosemite. We have a Marriott timeshare. There is a new Marriott facility at Tahoe that has offered a 4-day rental that has prompted our trip. We left Utah Valley on Thursday afternoon (10/2) with both "DOK" (the trike) and "BEBY" (Honda VTX 1300) strapped to the trailer behind the truck, and headed west. We made it to Elko, Nevada, 250 miles. After a peaceful night at the Holiday Inn Express, we had breakfast, and headed west again. We stopped at Lovelock for gas and ice cream, and drove on to Reno and Tahoe. The weather prediction was for a significant cold front and storm to move into the Sierra's in the late afternoon. We pulled into the parking lot of a market adjacent to the Marriott, and proceeded to spend an hour
getting the two bikes off the trailer. When unloaded we moved them to the Marriott, and made arrangements to hide them in the Marriott underground garage for a day or two while the weather came in and left. Our reservation at the Marriott was for four nights, beginning Monday. The plan was to spend Friday night in Tahoe, and then leave on Saturday for Yosemite, returning to Tahoe and the Marriott on Monday. So, for Friday night we had reservations at a motel (Avalon Inn). We went to the Avalon, checked in and dropped the trailer.Cami (our daughter from Seattle) has planned to take a week off and join us for the ride, and is flying to Reno tonight. So we left Tahoe at 6:00, just as the rain began to fall. She arrived and we returned to the Avalon Inn, following a stop at "In 'N Out" Burger in Reno. The weather prediction has been for rain/snow and wind with a high temperature of 41 for Tahoe on Saturday. We snuggled in for the night, with the rain pounding, and decided to not begin riding until Sunday. We were going to go to Yosemite and Mariposa on Saturday, spend Sunday riding back through Yosemite and surrounding area, and then go back to Tahoe on Monday. Now we will plan to travel to Yosemite on Sunday and return to Tahoe on Monday, eliminating the day in and around the Park.It seems that many bikers have a stuffed mascot/co-rider. Usually it has been either a bear or gorilla secured to the back of the bike. We have adopted a co-rider, nicknamed "Molar". You'll find him in some of the photos. Please try to not be too surprised. It seems that riding on a bike does strange things to your mind and judgment! Don't judge us too harshly.Jawbreaker (Crash), Chickie Babe and Molar.
